The Wikipedia page on Homecoming is an interesting read.
There are two faces to the week- our celebration and enthusiasm for our school and the call to alumni- asking them to return and help us celebrate. It’s a moment where we celebrate the history, tradition, and legacy of our school. We recognize these big, serious ideas by dressing up, cheering wildly, and participating in a potpourri of carnivalesque games on the gym floor during the annual pep rally on Friday afternoon.
We participate in this ritual because it celebrates those serious things mentioned above but also because it creates a memory. That memory is the VIP ticket for all of Kimberly High School’s Homecomings to come.
